By the mid-1980s, approximately 75% of Carrollton Bank’s loans were farm loans concentrated in Greene County. This heavy reliance on agriculture left the bank vulnerable to unpredictable challenges such as droughts and market disruptions, like an egg crisis. Recognizing the need for diversification, Tom Hough expanded Carrollton Bank’s reach, establishing new locations in St. Louis and Springfield, IL. This strategic growth created a more balanced and sustainable future for both the bank and its customers.
