Celebrating Mary Driemeyer: Elevating PE at Sappington Elementary
August 30, 2024
Today, we celebrate Mary Driemeyer, a dedicated PE and Health Teacher at Sappington Elementary, whose vision for a more dynamic and engaging PE program inspired her request for new tools to enhance her students' experience. Mary’s new equipment includes two Velcro ball dart boards, sticky balls, training nets, and a 20-foot Sky Puppet Dancer—all chosen to create exciting, skill-building stations for students in grades K-2. These stations focus on developing essential skills like underhand and overhand throwing, with additional challenges for 5th graders, who are eager to take on more advanced activities.
On Monday, August 26, Foundation Staff and Board Members had the pleasure of visiting Sappington to help set up the new equipment and see firsthand how it’s making a difference. Already, students are actively engaged, with Mary’s innovative approach turning assessments into fun, memorable experiences. The Sky Puppet Dancer has been a particular hit, capturing students’ attention with the same energy and excitement as they’d see at a store opening or even the Olympics.
Congratulations to Mary for her dedication and creativity in transforming PE into a truly engaging and skill-building environment for her students!
